A young cyclist has been killed in a collision with a construction lorry outside a Keltbray site in London.
The victim, described as a young adult in their early 20s, was reportedly riding an e-bike when the accident occurred. The collision took place on Tottenham Court Road as the tipper truck was exiting the Network Building, where Keltbray is currently engaged in demolition and groundworks for their client, Derwent.
In response to the tragic incident, all construction activities at the site have been immediately suspended until further notice. Authorities are currently conducting investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Keltbray issued a statement expressing their awareness of the incident. It read, “Keltbray is aware that early on Wednesday 24th May, a road traffic accident occurred on the public highway in Fitzrovia, involving one of its subcontractor’s lorries and a cyclist, in which the cyclist tragically sustained fatal injuries.”
The company further conveyed their condolences, saying, “The thoughts of the Keltbray leadership team and the entire workforce at Keltbray’s Built Environment Division are with the family and friends of all those involved at this very difficult time.”
In accordance with their commitment to cooperating with the authorities, Keltbray assured their full support to the police, emergency services, and their subcontractor throughout the ongoing investigations.
As the investigation proceeds, the community mourns the loss of a young life and hopes for a thorough examination of the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
This is not the first time Keltbray has been involved in such an incident. A cyclist was injured by a truck owned by the company back in 2010, just three months after a Keltbray-owned truck was involved in the death of another cyclist.
