One bridge. One truck. One mishap. Multiple explanations.
A bridge was being demolished in Leeds city centre tis weekend when something went awry.
Initial reports suggested that a massive section had dropped from a crane, crushing a truck below.
Certainly, that was the suggestion from the Daily Mail, a newspaper with only a passing interest in facts.
This suggestion was echoed by the Daily Mirror which cited an eye witness that said a “120 tonne section of the A64 bridge replacement has just collapsed on the truck from the crane.” (Quite how they knew the precise weight of the concrete span is anyone’s guess).
However, there has since been speculation online that the concrete section was already on the truck and that it somehow slipped from the bed of the truck.
