It is with huge regret that DemolitionNews announces the passing of Leslie Squibb Snr, son of Squibb Group founder Harry and father to current directors Leslie Jnr and Westley.
Leslie joined his father’s company in 1968 and was still company chairman when he passed away in hospital last night of a non-COVID related illness. Although latterly his position had become more “non-executive” in nature, he was still very much hands-on, regularly being called upon for his knowledge, experience and guidance.
He was enormously proud of the company he had helped create and which his sons took to even greater heights, becoming one of the UK’s foremost demolition contractors and moving into a new purpose-built headquarters in Stanford-le-Hope complete with a dedicated chairman’s office.
According to Squibb Group, he was more than a chairman. As the figure-head of a family-owned company, he was the “surrogate father and grandfather” to the company’s workforce, many of whom have also been with the firm for several generations. “He will leave a huge hole,” the company says.
However, the most fitting tribute comes from his son, Leslie Jnr. “He was my life.”
