I’ll warn you now – One listen, and you’ll be singing this all day.
Over the years, songwriters have used their craft to pay tribute to those they admire and adore. Elton John sang about Marilyn Monroe (and then Princess Diana) with “Candle in the Wind“; The Waterboys’ “Whole of the Moon” is – allegedly – about Prince; while “You’re so vain” by Carly Simon is aimed squarely at actor Warren Beatty.
But, to the best of our knowledge, no songwriter has previously penned a tribute to a demolition excavator. Until now.
Quite what prompted the song is not known; quite why a Chinese-built machine should be honoured with a country and western-style song is an even greater mystery. All we can tell you is that this is one of those ear-worm songs that you hear once and then find yourself whistling, humming and singing hours later. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
