Demolition Services Group the surprise winner of power station contract.
DemolitionNews understands that Leeds-based Demolition Services Group has been named as the contractor responsible for the demolition of the former Ironbridge Power Station.
After several weeks of speculation during which a number of contractors were being linked with the prestigious project, Demolition Services Group has apparently begun to deploy men and machines on the site, while the company’s name also appears on planning documentation associated with the contract.
The power station is the subject of considerable redevelopment plans, with a consultation about the future of the site expected to begin at the end of spring.
The site was purchased in June last year by Harworth Group, which had confirmed that it expected demolition to begin in “late spring”.
An update posted by the company said: “Harworth Group has now appointed a contractor to undertake demolition of the former power station, including redundant buildings and associated infrastructure. The finer details of how we will approach demolition and the phasing are currently being finalised. On site preparations are currently being made in anticipation of demolition works proper beginning in late spring.”
The company said it was still having discussions with local residents and organisations over the demolition.
