Company forced to act as it becomes latest victim of Internet craze.
The company demolishing the former Moorways swimming pool complex in Derby says that it has reviewed its security measures after video footage showed the ease with which children were getting access to the building.
In a statement, AR Demolition said that it is “not taking this incident lightly”.
This comes after a video was posted in a Derby Telegraph article that was taken by an urban explorer showing the ease with which he and others could access the swimming pool building, after a fence was flattened and a hole smashed in a door.
A spokesperson for AR Demolition said: “In light of the recent breach of security at Moorways Swimming Pool, we can confirm that robust security was in place on the site and continues to be compliant with all current operating standards.
This is the latest example of “urban exploration” in which young people gain access to disused buildings or structures under construction or inthe process of being demolished, all in pursuit of Internet fame.
DemolitionNews has already reported on the death of two young urban explorers and has previously called upon the industry and Chris Grayling MP to do more to combat this growing problem.
