Discovery of asbestos pushes back planned blast.
Mercy Medical Center officials have cancelled an implosion that was set for Sunday to bring down the three apartment buildings on the east side after a material that could be asbestos was discovered.
Crews will bring down the buildings through traditional demolition means as a safety precaution so as to not spread any of the material through an implosion.
Crews notified the state and will start the demolition after they do abatement work to remove the material. The demolition is expected to be complete this summer.
