Fate sealed for Colwyn Bay Pier…

Welsh landmark faces demolition after rescue bid fails.

Council bosses are to push ahead demolition plans after businessman Steve Hunt’s final attempt to have ownership of Colwyn Bay Pier vested in him has failed.

Earlier this year, the Court of Appeal had refused Mr Hunt’s application for permission to appeal the December 2015 High Court decision of Mr Justice Morgan.

However, he was procedurally entitled to renew his application at a 20 minute oral hearing, which was heard by Lord Justice Patten on November 2 this year.

The Court of Appeal refused Mr Hunt’s application for permission to appeal and stated that as a result of its decision no further appeal may be made to the Supreme Court.

A spokesperson for Conwy County Borough Council said the authority is pleased the court case has now come to an end some 5 years after it was initiated by Mr Hunt and work to deliver the Council’s decision to demolish the pier is continuing, with the aim to submit the application for listed building consent in the new year.
