Implosion marks final chapter for Sutton Steam Plant.
The last of three boilers at the Sutton Steam Plant outside Wilmington came down Wednesday in an early-morning implosion.
The implosion – carried out once again by Dykon Explosive Demolition Corp – removes the last Duke Energy coal plant in eastern North Carolina, and brings to seven the number of coal plants that have been demolished in the Carolinas in the past five years.
