Rochdale Town Centre overhaul begins with demolition.
Work is finally underway on the demolition of Telegraph House in the heart of Rochdale. The building was originally intended to be demolished when the bus station and Black Box were levelled last year but that proved impossible as one tenant’s lease had not expired.
The demolition, which is being undertaken by Connell Brothers Ltd, will make way for the new Rochdale Riverside retail and leisure scheme.
“This marks the end of an era and the beginning of an exciting new one. It’s great to know that by 2019, where Telegraph House once stood, we will have new shops and restaurants,” says Rochdale Borough Council Leader Cllr Richard Farnell. “It’s a great time to be in Rochdale. We’re undertaking a £250m transformation of our town centre and this is the final piece of the jigsaw.”
