City to host job fair to help minority demolition contractors.
The city of Detroit, which just received a $42-million infusion for blight demolition, is hosting a job fair for demolition contractors on May 13 at the Northwest Activities Center.
Mayor Mike Duggan was joined by the Rev. Jesse Jackson and a handful of minority business owners who specialize in demolition for the announcement today at Triumph Church, 2760 E. Grand Blvd., to announce the plan.
Duggan said the fair, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 13, will provide tools for minority and Detroit-based contractors to get work demolishing blighted homes.
“This is a long-term plan to rebuild the neighborhoods,” Duggan said. “We want to do it with businesses and workers that are from Detroit.”
