Blast fails to shift Harworth pit tower.
Crowds of local people and former colliery employees gathered for the explosive felling of an iconic pit tower at the former mining town of Harworth.
The controlled blast should have marked an end for the iconic local landmark. But the blast came and went, a cloud of dust rose up from the tower, but the tower stood defiant.
Eye-witness, Steve Page, who took the featured video of the failed demolition said: “I have been waiting all of my life to see a building demolished with explosives, my son and I got up at 5:30am to go and watch it.
“I heard one of the demolition crew say they had just spent £80,000 to kill three pigeons.”
