Award-winning video captures demolition of Moscow’s famous ZIL factory.
The name Zavod imeni Likhachova (ZIL) is synonymous with the heavily armoured executive cars favoured by Russia’s Communist Party leaders and oligarchs. The ZIL factory in Moscow is a major Russian automobile, truck, military vehicle, and heavy equipment manufacturer.
Although largely unknown outside the Commonwealth of Independent States, the company’s luxury vehicles fetch the same asking price as those from Maybach and Rolls-Royce. Not surprising. The factory’s production rarely exceeds a dozen vehicles per year.
And now, some of that factory is coming down. And its demolition has been captured in a truly stunning and award-winning short film that captures much of Moscow’s Communist-era arhitecture together with some breathtaking and modern demolition and film-making techniques.
