Contractor goes back in time to reveal historic bridges.
Connolly Recycling Solutions Ltd has completed a complex and challenging contract to uncover two sections of the River Roch that were hidden beneath Rochdale Town Centre.
The project – captured in the exclusive time-lapse video below – included uncovering two sections of the River Roch to expose the river’s historic bridges which date back to medieval and Victorian times.
The contract required the removal of the 700 mm thick reinforced concrete esplanade using a 40 tonne excavator. A cofferdam was used to divert water to create a dry side. This was then reversed to break out the other side. Great care was taken whilst working up against the bridge faces as a reinforced concrete beam has been dowelled into the stone face.
