Dominic Ogden’s niece targets Kilimanjaro in fund raiser.
Regular readers will know that the UK demolition industry lost one of its own in July when DSR Demolition’s Dominic Ogden passed away.
Ogden battled several illnesses over the years without complaint, and he passed away from complications caused by his rheumatic lungs. Rheumatoid arthritis affects more of the body than many people realise, and Dominic began suffering with it at the age of only 30. It is extremely debilitating and causes much pain and discomfort.
Between 27th December and 5th January, Ogden’s nice (and boss) Emma Thompson will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with her husband John. Kilimanjaro is one of the world’s ‘Seven Summits’: the highest mountains on each of the seven continents. It stands at 5,895 metres above sea level.
While we are enjoying a quiet Christmas and New Year, the pair will likely be experiencing headaches, nosebleeds, nausea and fatigue; not to mention going without a shower.
“In memory of my unforgettable uncle and boss, I am dedicating the trip to him and donating all monies raised to the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society. This organisation provides a voice to patients suffering with rheumatoid arthritis,” Thompson says. “Their input in reviewing research proposals ensures that the research will have a direct benefit to patients’ lives.”
DemolitionNews is already back Emma Thomspon but we would urge anyone that knew Dominic Ogden to do likewise via this dedicated Just Giving page.
