Rising prices and extending contract durations cause for concern.
It is just a few weeks since we featured a story on the rising price of wooden stakes used to form a perimeter fence around Detroit homes that are being demolished as part of a city-wide fight against blight and dilapidation.
And now it is the cost (and duration) of that demolition that has come under scrutiny.
According to local newspaper reports, average house demolition prices have escalated from $10,000 to $16,000 while contractors are regularly failing to abide by the city’s promise of a 15-30 day standard from the day a home is demolished to the day the resulting hole is filled in.
