It’s an ill wind as North West contractor slides into liquidation.
Windmill Group, the Manchester-based demolition company, has become the latest in a long line of UK demolition contractors to succumb to difficult trading conditions.
The company has, apparently, called in the receivers. Sources suggest that the receivers were left to break the news to staff when they arrived for work this morning.
We last featured the company for its demolition of the so-called “sausage bridge“.
Of course, the loss of another contractor is a blow to the industry in general, and to the staff in particular. But Windmill’s demise could have wider ramifications within the ranks of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors.
Windmill managing director Adrian Kelly is currently the vice chairman of the NFDC’s North West region. The collapse of the company could impact upon the usual line of succession within the region.
