Former Ruston Bucyrus warehouse being demolished to pave way for development.
“It’s the circle of life,” declared singer, songwriter and proud wearer of the worst haircut this side of Donald Trump, Elton John. “And it moves us all.”
There was a time when no self-respecting demolition equipment fleet would have been without a Ruston Bucyrus crawler crane. Equipped with a wrecking ball, they were the mainstay of the UK demolition industry for decades.
But with the arrival of the high reach excavator, demolition’s need for an “RB” declined. And although the company made a valiant attempt to board the hydraulic excavator bandwagon, the company’s crane fortunes slipped into a terminal decline before ceasing production altogether with the dawning of the 21st century.
And so it is perhaps fitting that a modern excavator – owned by contractor Down to Earth Demolition – has been tasked with demolishing one of the company’s former warehouses; a warehouse that would have held the parts that built the machines that built the UK demolition industry.
“…Through despair and hope, through faith and love, till we find our place, on the path unwinding. In the Circle. The Circle of Life…”
