Car maker applies for permission to demolish famous buildings.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has applied to demolish the existing buildings located on the former Dunlop Motorsport site in Castle Bromwich as it seeks to ramp up the number of cars it makes.
The plant closed a year ago with about 250 job losses.
JLR has lodged an application with Birmingham City Council to knock down 12 buildings on the land off Ashold Farm Road. In total the work is expected to take 18 weeks and could start this summer.
The Indian-owned car giant said the redevelopment was “essential to support the aspirations of JLR to increase vehicle production at Castle Bromwich”.
It is part of a £450m investment at the factory, which will build the next generation XF.
Dunlop Motorsport ended its operations at the site in May 2014, bringing to an end 125 years of history.
