British demolition man notches up multiple Australasian failures.
An English demolition man who left behind piles of debts and demolition materials in Christchurch after the earthquakes has surfaced in Western Australia where he is connected to another financial disaster.
Chris Skelly ran a demolition business in Christchurch after the earthquakes and left Christchurch in April, 2012, to avoid being deported.
He left behind his company Skelly Holdings which eventually went into liquidation owing about $5m to unsecured creditors. He had filled a KiwiRail warehouse in Sydenham with demolition materials from sites around the city and also left a site in Rolleston covered in debris. By the time the liquidator took his expenses and fees from recovered monies, only about $30,000 was left for secured or preferential creditors.
Skelly was being investigated for the assault of a ress photographer who was punched while in his car and had his camera stolen. However, no charges were laid before he left the country.
After leaving Christchurch Skelly went to Australia where he set up C & G Group Industries Pty Ltd, a company providing excavation services, including rehabilitation, to the mining industry. It is believed to have been active in Kalgoorlie. Skelly was the company’s founder and operation’s director.
Last month the company was put into liquidation after legal action by creditor Queensland-based Orionstone, a heavy equipment leasing company.
