Operator taken to hospital with laceration to head
An excavator fell from a bridge on Route 145 westbound at Route 16 in Revere onto nearby train tracks during scheduled demolition, according to Massachusetts Department of Transportation officials.
During demolition a floor beam of the bridge shifted and caused the excavator to tip, according to MassDOT officials.
Crews used cranes to stabilize the side of the bridge being demolished and removed the excavator, according to MassDOT.
The operator of the excavator was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with a laceration to the head, according to police. The injury is not considered serious.
Police identified the operator as a 50-year-old man from West Bridgewater, but did not release his name.
