Friday blast drops first bridge section.
The first of two planned implosions on the Fairfax Bridge has gone according to plan, according to local news reports.
The 760 metre long bridge was built in 1935 and until recently carried an average of 6,000 vehicles per day. The demolition of the old bridge and its subsequent replacement is part of a $79 million project.
