There she blows…

Explosive demolition diary is filling up fast.

Blast watchers (and one day I will get around to coining a term for these guys) will have plenty to keep them occupied in the coming days and months.

Crews will use explosives this week to remove parts of Fairfax Bridge connecting Missouri and Kansas to make way for a new replacement bridge.

Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (local time) on Friday to accommodate the demolition work.

Two blasts will remove the end spans of the bridge. The first is set for 9 a.m. Friday and the second about a half hour later. The part of the bridge that spans the Missouri River is set to be torn down by blasts on Jan. 30.

Meanwhile, Dallas-based development firm Trammell Crow Co. has scheduled an implosion of the vacant office tower in the Cityplace neighborhood to make way for a new development.

For the past several weeks, the developer’s contractors have been readying the structure for implosion, removing the exterior glass of the property north of Haskell Avenue on the east side of North Central Expressway.

Now, the company has scheduled a demolition of the tower on Sunday, Feb. 1 at about 8 a.m. to make way for the retail development, which will sit on 16.5 acres of land.
