Work has commenced on the demolition of Aberdeen’s Craiginches Prison.
The building, which has been part of the Torry landscape since the Victorian era, closed its doors last January and is being replaced with some modern developments.
It gained fame or notoriety for being the setting for the execution of convicted murderer Harry Burnett – the last Scottish person to face capital punishment – in 1963.
The demolition work is being carried out by Fraserburgh company David Smith Contractors.
And it is expected to take between four and five months to complete the operation.
David Morgan, the demolition manager, has overseen the commencement of the destruction of the site, which has long been described as an eyesore by Torry residents.
He said: “We are aiming to have the job finished by May.”
