And it is gesture controlled.
The use of gestures is already commonplace in demolition circles, from the signals given to an equipment operator by a banksman through to the rather-less-helpful gestures swapped by co-workers when the weekends football results are being recounted.
So could this be the next stage in the evolution of equipment control?
Admittedly, the test carried out by TV programme The Gadget Show – in conjunction with Coleman and Company – is less than a total success. In addition, the use of what appear to be Meccano arms linked to the machine’s controls are just a tad Heath Robinson.
But, with some further development, the ability to remotely control an excavator using nothing more than hand movements certainly seems like a good idea, and is – perhaps – more intuitive than the multi-function joystick manipulations required today.
