Somewhere, there’s a village missing its idiot.
It doesn’t matter that I have been doing this job for more than 25 years; the crass stupidity of Joe Public just never fails to confound and amaze.
To most people, a sign that reads Danger – Demolition – Keep out is pretty clear in both its meaning and its intent. And most people would understand that these signs – and the hoardings upon which they’re hung – are not there to satisfy some industrial aesthetic or to pretty-up an otherwise dull site.
And yet check out this space cadet who, upon seeing just such a sign sees it as a challenge and immediately goes into what (and this is a grown man remember) calls “Metal Gear Solid style stealth” mode so that he can get a closer look at the “giant T-Rex Transformer” (that’s a high reach excavator to anyone with an IQ greater than their shoe size) as it tears down the former home of New Order bassist Peter “Hooky” Hook.
