Deconstruct UK goes deep in West London.
Deconstruct (UK) Limited was appointed by Shaftesbury Carnaby Ltd to carry out the second phase of a two phase development, with the combined value of £3,300,000, after successful completion of phase 1.
The company carried out this enabling phase contract spanning between two busy roads and behind live properties in the heart of Soho. The wholesale demolition of a three-storey building, tower crane installation and provision of basement box encapsulated the following works:
Design and installation of various temporary works and means of fire escape to a number of party walls.
• Demolition of three-storey premises between retained, live premises.
• Retention of listed facade.
• Reduced level dig (approx. 4,500 m3)
• Sequential underpinning works
• Excavation and formation of tower crane base
• Formation of reinforced concrete basement raft slab and retaining walls.
Deconstruct successfully completed the demolition, tower crane installation and provision of a basement box at the project. Vehicular access to the project was only permissible between 7am and 11am, and subsequently required strict logistical planning. The removal of arisings and formation of the raft slab were undertaken sequentially in order to maximise efficiency.
Due to retained, live premises surrounding the project, Deconstruct was required to install and maintain a temporary means of fire escape for the surrounding stakeholders following demolition of the existing fire escape.
