Cleveland bridge to be partially dismantled, then blasted.
Parts of Cleveland’s old Innerbelt Bridge are coming down piece by piece, but later this summer, the remainder will come down with a bang.
Crews are dismantling four of the nine spans that make up the bridge. Those sections over four sensitive areas are being taken down, in essence, by hand by a crew of 150.
The westernmost two sections of the former I-90 bridge, a section over the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks and far eastern section are over areas where care must be taken.
While the section over the river is being removed, the Cuyahoga River is closed. Crews must finish by Friday morning. If they are not finished by then the river must be reopened and remain open for five days before another closure can be granted.
