Komatsu to demolish more Peoria plant buildings.
A reminder of Peoria’s manufacturing past will soon be gone. Komatsu America Corp. is taking down aging industrial buildings that have lined Adams Street for almost 100 years.
Komatsu is following through with plans originally brought to the Peoria City Council in 2012. The oldest two buildings along Adams were removed in 2006, and now the remaining structures will come down by the end of July, said Mari Aoyagi, Komatsu’s marketing communications and branding manager from Rolling Meadows, outside Chicago, the U.S. headquarters for the Tokyo-based construction equipment manufacturer.
Komatsu manufactures dump trucks and wheel loaders for the mining industry, including the world’s largest dump truck.
Once the buildings are down, Komatsu will landscape the area as well as install an entrance/exit for the 650 employees who work at the site, she said.
“Komatsu held a meeting to get opinions and feedback for our construction plan of removing the buildings and change it into green space with the city of Peoria and the area neighborhood association,” said Aoyagi of a meeting last month.
