Debris to be removed from botched implosion that injured onlookers.
The large, toppled boiler towers sitting across from a popular northwest Bakersfield shopping centre will finally be hauled away.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. said Wednesday that the California Public Utilities Commission granted it permission to move forward with the remaining demolition work at the Kern Power Plant site.
Demolition work was halted last August after civilian spectators were injured by shrapnel in the blasting of the two 45-foot structures.
Kern Power Plant operated from 1948 until 1985, when it went into stand-by status. It was permanently closed in 1995.
PG&E said it committed to clean up the site after several deals to sell the property fell through.
Silverado Contractors has been hired for the remaining demolition.
