Tourists camp in quake damaged New Zealand house.
It is almost 70 years since the end of the Second World War and – in the main – British folk have largely set aside their disquiet about the German nation. We buy their cars in huge numbers, we look on admiringly at the strength of their economy and their organisational and footballing skills and – unlike some – we have chosen not to bug the telephone of their national leader.
And yet some prejudices and stereotypes endure – Like the idea that German holidaymakers awake shortly before dawn to ensure that they snag the sun loungers right by the pool.
That stereotype will not be helped by a story emerging from New Zealand’s “Red Zone” where a group of German tourists have been found camping in an earthquake-damaged home that was awaiting demolition.
Apparently, the three individual were living in a tent inside the house, barbecuing food and using one of the house’s bedrooms as a makeshift toilet.
