Chinese cement plant blast contributes to problem it was designed to ease.
Shijiazhuang, capital of China’s Hebei province, has been suffering serious air pollution for several years. The city was listed as one of the top 10 polluted cities in China every month in the first 10 months of 2013, according to China’s Environmental Protection Ministry.
One of the key contributors to this air pollution was a cement works located some 30 kilometres outside the city. So a decision was made to demolish the plant in a controlled explosion.
I am sure that local residents covered in cement dust from the blast will appreciate the new-found air cleanliness.
