Company to work with local residents to choose demolition method.
AR Demolition has emerged as the winner of the hotly-contested Belgrave Flyover contract in the heart of Leicester. And, intriguingly, the company is working with local residents to choose the preferred demolition method.
The flyover itself will close to traffic from Saturday, February 1, with demolition work beginning on Saturday, February 15.
Two possible methods for the subsequent demolition have been proposed.
A shorter option, which would take nine weeks, would see the flyover taken down in three large sections, and involves two one-week total road closures, during which works would take place from 7am to midnight.
A longer option would take 14 weeks, with the roads fully open at peak times, single-lane closures at off-peak times and some full road closures in the evenings.
There would also be two full weekend road closures to demolish the sections of the flyover directly above the roundabout.
Some 34,000 vehicles cross the flyover daily and concerns have been raised about the road network’s capacity to cope without it.
