Charting the rise and fall of Euro Dismantling Services (EDS).
It now appears that nothing short of a miracle will save the demolition arm of EDS – one of an elite club of UK demolition contractors to have enjoyed overseas success – from joining the dead pool. Facilities management giant OCS bought up the parts of ailing Silverdell that it considered worthy of salvage, leaving EDS’ demolition division and approximately 90 demolition workers out in the cold.
Anyone that has followed DemolitionNews over the past few years will have charted EDS’ rise and fall: from the highs of being named Demolition Contractor of the Year by Construction News; to the lows of a highly-publicised site fatality and a downward spiral into the economic abyss.
With everything bar the last rites now seemingly over, we have taken the opportunity to compile all the coverage of EDS and Silverdell’s rise and subsequent fall as we have reported it over the part two and a half years.
While it will make uncomfortable reading for the directors that presided over the ignominious decline and for the workers facing uncertain futures.
For the rest of the industry, however, it is a stark reminder that ambition must be tempered with caution; that cashflow is king; and that ultimately, no company is too big to fail.
