EDS workers left out in the cold…

Workers from the company’s demolition arm angered at non-payment and mistreatment.

The news that OCS had bought out the Silverdell subsidiaries Euro Dismantling Services, EDS Plant Solutions and EDS Group Holdings was widely greeted as a rescue mission by the industry media. But the statement failed to mention that around 90 workers from EDS’ decommissioning division – the part primarily involved in the demolition business – were not a part of the rescue package and now face unemployment and an uncertain future.

In a statement issued by administrator BDO just a shoret time ago, it states:

OCS, the facilities management group, has acquired the business and assets of the Group’s Access and Insulation, Nuclear and Decontamination divisions, with the majority of the Group’s 650 staff transferring to OCS. It has regrettably been necessary to make approximately 90 employees redundant, the vast majority of which worked in the Group’s Decommissioning division, whilst the Joint Administrators continue to seek a buyer for the business, assets and contracts of that division.

Many of those workers have taken to the comments board on DemolitionNews to vent their anger with many claiming they had received assurances of continued employment or payment.

“…They told the lads over the phone yesterday we will be getting our p45 and a form to claim back our lost earnings from the government but only a maximum of £450 but not guaranteed to get that full amount..” says one. While another says: “…maybe we should all band together to make a collective claim for their gross mismanagement…”
