The $2,800 cost of a human life…

Derisory fine over death of a demolition worker.

A Stephenville company has been cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the death of a worker at the Pampa Energy Center.

Ironrock Resources, Inc. was cited for not providing a training program for employees potentially exposed to fall hazards. The accident occurred 9 February 2013.

The second citation stated that each employee on a walking or working surface 6 feet or more above lower levels was not protected from falling by a guardrail system, safety net system or personal fall arrest system.

OSHA ranked both citations as a serious violations and directed the company to pay two $2,800 fines and take corrective action.

Jesus J. Ramirez-Chavez, of Pampa, was killed after a portion of a building collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Another worker was critically injured.

The collapse at the former Celanese plant, which was being demolished, caused Ramirez-Chavez and another worker to fall approximately 40 feet.
