Twin-boom excavator becomes a mind-bending Chinese reality.
A few years ago – together with the guys at Armac Group – we created a spoof story on the existence of an excavator with two booms. At the time, we claimed it was doubly productive and was ideal for excavating at crossroads.
However, in the ultimate case of fact being stranger than fiction, a Chinese manufacturer has made our mindless nonsense a track AND wheel-mounted, single operator, pat-your-head-while-rubbing-your-belly reality. This machine – made by Bada TG – was spotted at the recent BICES exhibition by our old friend Mike Woof at World Highways magazine where it was being demonstrated as a post-earthquake clean-up solution.
According to Woof, the machine has just one operator and generally works on tracks but its wheels can be lowered to allow it to travel more quickly on highways.
The spec sheet – in finest Mandarin – is all but incomprehensible. From what we can gather, the machine weighs in at 14,400 kg and is powered by a 142 kW diesel engine.
But, frankly, who cares about specifications? It’s a twin-boomed machine requiring just a single (assumingly ambidextrous) operator for the love of God!
