December date set for Michigan blast.
The implosion of Genesee Towers is expected to occur before Christmas, according to the most recent information released by Uptown Reinvestment Corp.
“I know everyone has been waiting to hear about next steps with (Genesee) Towers,” Tim Herman – President of Uptown Reinvestment Corporation and CEO of the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce – said in a written statement. “At this point, the plan is coming together nicely. We have put together a strong demolition team to help us bring down the building in a safe and responsible manner.”
Flint Township-based Siwek Construction was chosen to oversee the implosion of Genesee Towers.
Dave Lurvey, a consultant who is managing the project on behalf of Siwek Construction, said that the demolition team is fully engaged and has been working to prep the building for its pending implosion.
“The environmental abatement process should wrap up this week,” said Lurvey. “Once this process is complete, we can engage the implosion engineers.”
Over the next few weeks, Uptown and Siwek will meet with the Jacksonville based Contract Drilling & Blasting, the implosion firm that has been hired to handle the implosion engineering and blasting work.
