Some residents to be evacuated ahead of 22 October implosion.
Advanced Explosive Demolition’s Lisa Kelly has been reassuring local residents ahead of the scheduled 22 October blast that will drop a pair of 14-storey Springfield tower blocks.
In the coming days, fliers detailing what residents should expect the day of will be hand-delivered and mailed to residents living within the 500-foot exclusion zone.
Fliers also will be mailed to residents within the 1,000-foot exclusion zone, which includes areas south of Lawrence Avenue, east of Walnut, west of First Street and north of South Grand, said Jackie Newman, executive director of the SHA.
Terry Barlas, project manager with Omega Demolition, which has been contracted for the Sankey job, said the company has been working in the months leading up the implosion to ensure everyone is safe. Four floors will be rigged with explosives, and the immediate areas will be covered with geotextile fabric and fencing to eliminate the chances of flying debris, he said.
