River debris renders demolition temporarily unsafe.
Rising waters in the Missouri River have forced a delay in the first explosion to bring down the old Amelia Earhart Memorial Bridge.
KDOT says debris in the river makes it unsafe for divers to work in the water, so the first blast has been rescheduled from Monday, October 7, to Wednesday, October 9, at 9 am. Dates for the second and third blasts are still under consideration at this time.
The first blast Wednesday morning will remove the high truss steel across the entire bridge structure spanning from the Kansas to Missouri side of the river. The second and third blasts will remove the bridge piers.
