One person is dead in a partial building collapse in downtown St. Paul, at the demolition site of the future Lowertown Ballpark.
St. Paul Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard said part of the building collapsed on a crane or backhoe operator, who died at the scene.
The collapse happened around 8 a.m. at the former Diamond Products/Gillette building at E. 5th Street and Broadway, which is being demolished to clear the site for the new St. Paul Saints ballpark.
The mayor’s office is expected to make a statement Tuesday morning.
