Thieves steal $200K in copper in broad daylight
Thieves used a semi-truck to haul off with 15 tons of copper wire worth $200,000 in a brazen daytime heist from a suburban Detroit demolition site, police said.
Allen Park-based Danou Enterprises, Inc. has posted a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible after police said the thieves stole a 40-yard, 15-ton roll-off box from a demolition site in Trenton Dec. 22.
The incident comes amid a spike in thefts of scrap metal sources including wires from power lines and air conditioners.
“High scrap values make it all too attractive for people who are trying to make an easy buck,” said Jay Sherwood, board member for the Michigan chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, Inc.
