Business owners speak to TV channel over unpaid damage claims.
Business owners have turned to local TV station KEYETV after they say flying shrapnel from the implosion of the U.S. 281 Bridge in Marble Falls has cost them tens of thousands of dollars.
“I just want the people who are accountable, held accountable,” said Paul Brady, the owner of River City Grille. His ten year old restaurant is full of holes and although Brady is resourceful, “we just put some duct tape on it,” he laughed.
Brady is tired of waiting for someone to fix what he says is $57,000 worth of damage. And he’s not alone. “Getting anything done since then has been a nightmare,” Larson Lloyd said while shaking his head. “Just getting someone to take responsibility.” Lloyd is the General Manager of Northland Communications.
The implosion spliced the company’s fibre optic cables, cutting internet and phone service for thousands of customers. They’ve since been replaced, with a price tag of more than $50,000, according to Lloyd. “Gosh, how much time and effort do you have to put to get a claim paid,” he asked?
According to Lloyd, the owner of Engineered Explosive Services says the claims are now under review by his insurance company and that he will be compensated. “I hope at some point, we can be taken care of and the other entities involved can be taken care of,” Lloyd concluded.
