Demolition crew in Birmingham uncover gun, grenade.
Police have sealed off a busy Birmingham street after shocked workers bulldozing a derelict garage stumbled across a gun and grenade.
Police, some armed, closed Bristol Road at around 4.30pm on Tuesday when the chilling discovery was made by a demolition crew at the former Selly Oak Motor Company site.
Bomb disposal experts were called-in and a handful of people were evacuated from nearby homes as a precaution.
An eyewitness said the weapons were in a box which fell from the roof of the building. It is being razed to make way for student accommodation and a Sainsburys store.
The workers discovered the deadly cache when they peeked into the box.
Matt Rolf, co-owner of fancy dress shop Selly Joke, next to the former car lot, said businesses on the stretch of road had been hit by a police cordon.
He said: “The car lot recently closed. As they were demolishing it it they’ve seen a box come off the roof.
“When they opened the box, there was a handgun and a grenade in there.
