Man has leg partially amputated as debris hits crowd.
Three spectators were hit by shrapnel during the scheduled implosion at the Kern Power Plant in Bakersfield, California, early Saturday, police said.
A 43-year-old man, standing more than 1,000 feet away, had one leg partially amputated, in addition to an injury to the other leg, Bakersfield Police Lt. Scott Tunnicliffe told CNN. The victim was stabilized and airlifted to a hospital in Fresno.
The two other victims were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene, he said.
Two vehicles, including a police car, were damaged.
