Westinghouse sets sights on European decommissioning sector.

Westinghouse Electric will work with Studsvik to join forces for operations in Germany and Sweden to dismantle and decomission old nuclear power plants.

The Cranberry Township-based company said Westinghouse and Studsvik would be using the name ndcon, or Nuclear Decomissioning Consortium by Studsvik and Westinghouse, for those operations. Westinghouse said a number of European nuclear power plants are nearing the end of their operational life and others in Germany are going to be closed by 2022.

“This teaming agreement with Studsvik will bring together an excellent combination of decommissioning and dismantling skills and services, as well as a wealth of experience that will ultimately contribute to our customer’s success,” said Westinghouse Europe, Middle East and Africa President Yves Brachet.
