NZ blast bid tops out at $26,000…

Unknown person pledges $26,000 to press button on Radio Network House this Sunday.

An unnamed individual known only as Demo Man 3 has apparently won an auction for the honour pf pressing the button to implode Christchurch’s Radio Network House on Sunday 5 August. The news comes after thousands of dollars worth of bides were removed from the online auction when organisers were unable to verify their validity.

Bidding for the right to initiate the implosion of the earthquake-damaged building went live on Trade Me on July 24, starting with a $1 reserve.

Naylor Love and Ceres New Zealand, who are responsible for the demolition, say that funds raised by the auction will go towards the restoration of the Isaac Theatre Royal in Gloucester St, central Christchurch.

Radio Network House is scheduled to come down at 8am local time on Sunday.
