Take down a four-storey mostly timber building in a single day? Sure. Do it with the minimum of disruption to local traffic? Not a problem. Do it alongside a building erected in 1767 which is to remain untouched and undamaged throughout? OK, that will require a little more innovation.
Thankfully, the task to demolish the four-storey Mica Building in Bristol, New Hampshire was awarded to Costello Dismantling – which is currently celebrating its 26th anniversary – which utilised a crane-suspended shield to protect the neighbouring landmark throughout, as this great time-lapse video shows:
