Raffle winner demolishes Hartlepool Steetley chimney
A landmark structure disappeared from the Hartlepool skyline just a short time ago.
The Steetley chimney was flattened as part of work to clear the former chemical works site.
Raffle tickets offering the chance to blow up the 230ft (70m) tall structure raised £6,000 which will be shared between Hartlepool RNLI and Hartlepool and District Hospice.
The winner, Dave Fricker, 47, from Hartlepool, pressed the button to start the demolition on Sunday.
Hartlepool Mayor Stuart Drummond and the Sirius Group, the firm contracted to clear the site by the land’s owners Starford Holdings, nominated the charities which will benefit from the raffle.
The explosives work was carried out by Robinson and Birdsell.
