Following last week’s Triple Treat, this Sunday will see yet another major US implosion.
In just three days, St. Ann’s Tower in Irondequoit, N.Y. will be no more.
Officials at St. Ann’s say they plan to implode the circular housing tower located on its campus. Once demolished, it will become a parking lot for staff members and visitors.
On Wednesday, demolition workers put some of the explosive devices inside the building. The tower served residents for 39 years and focused on the care of seniors. Now decades later, officials at St. Ann’s say the building is not able to accommodate its residents whose disabilities are getting severe.
In March and April of this year, residents were moved to St. Ann’s new facility and also their campus in Webster.
“We’ve got some experts who have done this thousands of times and they have assured us that this is not something that they don’t do all the time, and they have done it very safely, so we are really confident. Obviously, we put some plans in place to make sure everyone is accounted for, safe, but we are pretty confident that this will go off without a hitch,” said Debra Metzger, VP of Planning and Project Development.
